Enrichment Classes

June 20-24, 2016

  • Rising Kinder - 3rd grade students will attend 2, one-hour classes. 

  • Rising 4th-9th grade students will attend 1, two-hour class.  

  • Classes with *'s are offered more than one week throughout the summer.

  • When filling out the sign-up form, you'll be asked to pick back-up options in case some classes don't fill.

*Evergreen Community Theater Company - Summer Edition

Grade range: K-3

 

Lights, camera, action! Become a part of the Evergreen Community Theatre Company- Summer 2015 edition! Each week, students will participate in silly and serious improv games to learn acting skills, sing songs, and rehearse short skits. Get ready to "break a leg" at short performances that will be held each Friday at lunch. While all of the plays will be nature themed, each week will have a different focus, allowing students to participate in one or all of the enrichment sessions throughout the summer!

Hip Hop Dance Crew

Grade range: K-3

 

Do you love to dance, have lots of energy and enjoy upbeat music?  Calling all fun loving kids to join the Hip Hop Dance Crew!  We will be learning cool hip hop dance steps while building muscle strength, increasing coordination, encouraging musicality and learning spatial awareness…all while having fun and dancing to age appropriate and popular music!  Discover your talent and style through energetic warm ups, fun movement games and working together as a team!  Throughout the 9 weeks, we will put our skills into a fun choreographed routine to be performed for family and friends!  I can't wait to see you on the dance floor!

Grade range: K-3

Explore the rainbow through many different mediums - tie dye, paint, coloring, collage, fabric, watercolor, and more.

Checkmate

Grade range: 1-3 only

 

Learn and play the fundamentals of chess - how different chess pieces move, check & checkmate, opening strategies & tactics, checkmate patterns, what is a draw, endgame strategies. Instructor Bruce Roth has been teaching chess for 20 years, and has taught over 1,500 students to play.

*Around the World

Grade range: K-3

 

Each day, students will "visit" another country and experience traditional activities, visuals, snacks and the language of that country's predominate culture. Each week of culture club will target a variety of countries/cultures around the world, including referencing some books and informational links for students to explore. Students are expected to gain a broader knowledge of human traditions, encouraging an acceptance and appreciation of the diversity of our beautiful human race.

*On Belay!

Grade range: 4-9

 

Work towards belay certification with Evergreen Adventure PE and Climbing Wall specialist Jo Giordano. Campers in this enrichment will gain climbing experience not just in the morning enrichments time, but also during afternoon adventures helping with the younger groups. Evergreen students can earn volunteer credit hours for this as well. And, yes, this class can be repeated from week to week.

STEM Project Fun (FULL)

Grade range: 4-9

 

Engage in friendly competition and take part in various STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) projects that strengthen your design and construction skills. Test different materials to build the best model edible cars and/or the strongest raft.

*Nature Art
Grade range: 4-9

 

Explore nature and feel inspired! Each day we will explore our surrounding envrionment in a different way, with the purpose of discovering more about who we are and how we are connected to the natural world.  We will walk, discover, talk about what we are experiencing, and then CREATE! We will deepen these experiences with poetry and literature inspired by nature and field trips to places such as Botanical Gardens, Warren Wilson, and WNC Nature Center.  The week will culminate with a project that each student can leave with - a chapbook, collage, or photo gallery that reflects their experience exploring and connecting with the natural world.
