Garden Chef Cook Off Challenge
Get ready for the real-life version of the popular kid cook-off shows, Asheville style: local, fresh and delicious. This session is for the kid who loves to play with foods and flavors and enjoys a little competition. We'll spend the first couple of days exploring basic techniques for cooking (saute, roast, steam, etc) and preparing (dice, slice, cube, etc), as well as explore the vegetables and herbs we have available in our garden. We will take a visit to a local restaurant to learn from an expert chef about how to they use local, fresh ingredients to prepare their menus. On Friday, students will participate in THE GARDEN CHEF COOK OFF CHALLENGE. Kids will work in teams to use whatever they want to harvest from the garden and the "mystery basket" of supplemental ingredients to prepare a variety of dishes for our panel of judges. Parents and siblings are welcome to join us for the competition and lunchtime feast!
