Enrichment Classes

July 23-27, 2018

  • Rising Kinder - 3rd grade students will attend 2, one-hour classes.

  • Rising 4th-9th grade students will attend 1, two-hour class.  

  • Classes with *'s are offered more than one week throughout the summer.

  • When filling out the sign-up form, you'll be asked to pick back-up options in case some classes don't fill.

  • The sign-up form is on the Registration page.

*Gymnastics THIS CLASS IS FULL!

Grade range: K-3

 

Tumble, roll, spin, jump, dance! In this class, we crank up the music and set up stations of trampoline, basic tumbling, low beams, rings, balance boards, and strength training.

*Dance, Dance, Dance
Grade range: K-3

A combination of hip hop, Latin, and popular dance moves to current and past top hits. Classes are a combination of follow-along choreography, dance games, and free dance. The goal is to have fun moving our bodies while also learning new moves and new music. K-3 focus on basic moves and keeping our bodies in their own "bubble."

*Creative Creatures
Grade range: K-3

 

Students will create 2D and 3D mixed media works made with recyclable or easily thrown away items. Each project will focus on creatures from different ecosystems.

Students will start their morning learning the fundamentals of soccer and engage in healthy competition with a few games thrown in!

*Checkmate
Grade range: 1-3 ONLY

Learn and play the fundamentals of chess - how different chess pieces move, check & checkmate, opening strategies & tactics, checkmate patterns, what is a draw, endgame strategies. Instructor Bruce Roth has been teaching chess for 20 years, and has taught over 1,500 students to play.

Come explore the garden and surrounding woods with us! Field to Feast classes will have rotating themes based on the teacher's passion and what is happening in our garden, but will always include garden care taking, thematic environmental education & science investigations, take-home garden crafts, and explorations of the natural world. Every week will culminate in a garden harvest and the creation of a shared meal from our garden. 

WEEK 5: FOOD FROM SCRATCH

Tracing common foods to their basic ingredients by making condiments, breads, and toppings from scratch.

Saving the world from a zombie virus by unlocking the antidote! Lost in time, navigating your way back to modern day! In Breakout Adventures, students work collaboratively to solve a series of critical thinking puzzles in order to open a locked box, all before time runs out!  Students will have the chance to solve several Breakout Box challenges throughout the week (each with its own unique story!) as well as build their own breakout box challenge. To cap it all off, on Friday, the class will travel to a local breakout room!

Outdoor Cooking THIS CLASS IS FULL!

Grade range: 4-9

This class will have a $20 materials fee

Each day we will learn a new method for how to build a fire. Then we will use our fire to cook a variety of camp foods. Any dietary restrictions and food preferences will be discussed on our first day together, so we can plan our cooking for the week! The materials fee for this class will include each camper coming away with their cooked snacks or lunch each day.

For the Birds I: Bird Houses

Grade range: 4-9

 

During this camp session we will be creating beautiful and functional rustic birdhouses. First, students will design and build the basic structure of their birdhouse based on what birds they hope to attract. Next, we will explore the campus and gather some of the natural materials around us to add character to each unique creation. If time allows, students may choose to build more than one birdhouse.
